I am a senior in Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University and a distance runner turned triathlete. My running career started in high school in Iowa City, IA where I was captain of my cross-country and track teams, placed third with my XC team at the state meet my senior year, and placed 5th in the 3k at the state track meet my senior year. At Purdue, I joined Run Club, which quickly became my family, even though I have only been able to compete on and off with the team. I got severe stress fractures in both shins at the end of my freshman year, which is how I first got interested in cycling and swimming. I'm actually grateful for that injury now because of how much I have come to love the other two disciplines, especially cycling. I did my first sprint triathlon in the spring of 2018 and my first Olympic distance triathlon in the fall of 2019. This past April, I bought my first road bike, a Specialized Tarmac SL6 Disc, and I just want to be riding it all the time! I eat a Picky Bar in the middle of every ride (or two bars depending on how far I go). After I graduate from Purdue next spring, I hope to be heading to start my PhD somewhere. My career goal is to do research in biomechanics, specifically in the realm of exoskeleton and powered orthosis design. I want to increase access to sports for kids with disabilities.
