I am a first year Mechanical Engineering PhD student at the University of Michigan and a distance runner turned triathlete. My running career started in high school in Iowa City, IA where I was captain of my cross-country and track teams, placed third with my XC team at the state meet my senior year, and placed 5th in the 3k at the state track meet my senior year. At Purdue, I joined Run Club, which quickly became my family, even though I was only been able to compete on and off with the team. I got severe stress fractures in both shins at the end of my freshman year, which is how I first got interested in cycling and swimming. I'm actually grateful for that injury now because of how much I have come to love the other two disciplines, especially cycling. I did my first sprint triathlon in the spring of 2018 and my first Olympic distance triathlon in the fall of 2019. I bought my road bike in May 2020 (narrowly missed the shortage), a Specialized Tarmac SL6 Disc, and I just want to be riding it all the time! I eat a Picky Bar in the middle of every ride (or two bars depending on how far I go). Through my research in the Neurobionics Lab at UM and beyond, I want to increase access to sports for kids with disabilities through the development of robotic exoskeletons and orthoses. This year, I'm going for a 1/2 marathon PR!
